MRT Sungai Buloh - Kajang (SBK Line)/
Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) - Elevated
The elevated portion of KVMRT’s first line, the Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line (SBK Line or the Blue Line) will have 24 stations and a track length of 41.5 km. It is expected to commence operations by December 2016 and fully operational by July 2017.
Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) - Underground
It is inevitable that the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) will need underground stations to cater to the most urbanised and densely populated areas in Kuala Lumpur. For the underground portion of KVMRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line (SBK Line or the Blue Line) spanning 9.5 km, MMC Gamuda has collaborated with the world’s largest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) manufacturer Herrenknecht AG to produce the world’s first Variable Density TBM.
An innovation from the pre-existing Slurry Shield TBM, the Variable Density TBM is designed to handle Kuala Lumpur’s “extreme karst” terrain. It has the ability to alter the density and viscosity of the slurry to halt slurry from escaping into cavities or blowing out from fissures leading to the ground surface. This, in turn, preserves the tunnel face pressure of the TBM, and keeps the terrain stable during the excavation process.
